Celebration ceremony for the Establishment of the MSAR
About 3,000 guests participated today, December 20, in a ceremony in honour of the creation of the Macau SAR of the People’s Republic of China in the presence of the Chinese president, Mr Jiang Zemin, and Vice- Premier Qian Qichen.
A number of Foreign Affairs Ministers, senior government representatives and representatives of international organizations attended reception.
The ceremony took place at the newly decorated Macau Forum. Both Mr. Jiang Zemin and the Chief Executive of Macau SAR, Mr. Edmund Ho addressed the gathering.
Mr. Edmund Ho offered a special welcome tribute to Mrs. Zhuo Lin, widow of the former Chinese leader Mr Deng Xiaoping.
The programme included the transfer of the Land Fund, followed by a flag ceremony and a video show of the gifts offered to the Macau SAR by the Chinese People’s Central Government, 31 Chinese provinces, autonomous regions and cities under the direct jurisdiction of the Central Government and by the HKSAR.
The ceremony included a Cultural Show after which Mr. Jiang Zemin and Mr. Qian Qichen went to the stage to greet the artists and the audience amid in a warm applause.
